Multi Role Flight Simulator

Having completed the Bell 206 helicopter simulator it became increasing clear that the next logical step was to create a Multi Role Simulator that would allow me to fly not only helicopters but almost any type of general aviation or WWII fighter planes.

Here is what I have completed at this point.

System Configuration
  • Computer #1
    • Runs Microsoft FSX software.
    • Top monitor is now a 40" HDTV/Monitor by Sceptre which displays Vitrual Cockpit view. (40" monitor not shown in pictures. They will be updated soon.)
    • Left monitor used to display aircrafts main instrument panel. This monitor is a Touch Screen.
    • Right monitor used to display GPS, Radios, Autopilot, etc.
    • TrackIR Pro is used to track head movement so that the view on top monitor changes in relation to where you are looking.
    • Saitek Yoke and Dual Throttle quadrants used for yoke style aircraft.
    • Saitek Radio Panel controls Radio, Navigation, ADF, DME, Transponder settings.
    • Leo Bodnar BU0836X controller used to interface the helicopter flight controls and main switches (lights, gear, overhead panel, etc).
    • Pokeys55T controller interfaces the GPS and Autopilot switches. It also controls output to the led(s).
    • Home build torque (rudder) peddles, cyclic, and collective with throttle for helicopter flight control.
    • Home built panel for GPS, Autopilot, and radio/navigation speaker control.
    • FSUIPC software controls interface between controls and FSX. FSUIPC also monitors events happening in real time. An example would be the landing gear status. As the landing gear is raised or lowered, FSUIPC monitors the gear status and sends commands to the PoKeys55T controller to turn the three gear led(s) on or off.

    • Using FSUIPC I am able to program several aircraft profiles. Every aircraft is assigned to a profile depending on what type of flight controls are required.

The following profiles currently have been created

      • Yoke - Uses Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant (configured for single/dual engine airftaft), Rudder Peddles, Main Switch Panel.
      • Helo - Uses Anti-Torque Peddles, Collective, Cyclic Controls, Overhead Panel Switchs
      • Stick - Uses Rudder Peddles, Center Stick (Cyclic Control), Left Hand Throttle Quadrant (to be completed)
      • B17 - Uses Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant (configured for 4 engine aircraft), Rudder Peddles, Main Switch Panel.
  • Computer #2
    • Runs G-Plan Flight Tracking Software
    • Runs Teamspeak software for communcations when flying online
